This week I am going to talk about something that changed my perception and tantalized my taste buds. I had always thought of vermouth as a cocktail ingredient, something that went well with other things but was a bit much alone, a bit like Robbie Williams when he left Take That and went solo… couldn’t really stomach it.
However – all that changed when Riddles Emporium got sent the Belsazar range and oh my god, everything changed. You will have to take my word for it when I say that I’m not just waxing lyrical about this because we sell it, it really is amazingly delicious. Described as a ‘wine aperitif in a class of it’s own’, Belsazar vermouth’s come from Berlin and are made using high quality wines from the regions of Markgraflerland and Kaiserstuhl in southern Baden, and fruit brandies from the Schladerer distillery. Macerates consist of extracts from herbs, spices, blossom, husks and peels which form the basis for the complex flavours that these vermouth’s boast. Belsazar’s finishing touch comes from a dash of fruit brandy giving it a sublime subtle sweetness that makes it extremely quaffable.
The sweetness of Belsazar also comes from adding Black Forest grape must. The must is matured in oak casks giving a sherry edge to the taste.
The Belsazar range includes a versatile and light rosé, a mellow white (my personal favourite, and a must try), a full bodied red, and a distinguished dry vermouth. We have samples of these in store so pop in and give them a try, I promise you, you’ll be hooked.
We also have lots of unique cocktail recipes in store using this product that you can try. Here’s one that we tried and tested and recommend you give a go. Simple but so delicious.
